Hello, World!

The African spurred tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata), also called the sulcata tortoise, is a species of tortoise, which inhabits the southern edge of the Sahara desert, in Africa. It is the third-largest species of tortoise in the world, the largest species of mainland tortoise, and the only extant species in the genus Centrochelys.

I have decided to choose the name Sulcata in order to set the expectations and tone of this blog. The stocks chosen will not be the sexiest, nor will the strategies involve any mystifying "quant" analysis, nor will the stocks promise quick and thrilling riches. Rather, I am interested in investments that provide great value, often due to poor sentiment - but not poor fundamentals. Like the sulcata tortoise, I hope that these investments will compound to a great size; but also like the sulcata tortoise, these investments will require great patience before growth. With great patience in beaten-down companies with good value, I hope to be able to find securities that out perform the general market over the long run.

In this blog I will not only post security analysis, but I will also post thoughts on various financial topics and on the work that others have done before me. This is for two reasons. First, being able to post about an idea or something that I have read takes significantly less time than posting a full stock analysis (and I hope I am able to post on this blog frequently). Second, looking at how others view financial topics will not only be informative to the reader, but it will also encourage me to seek out more information on a broad range of financial topics.

Stay tuned...
